Cultivar represents the evolution of Roche + Roche Landscape Architecture, founded in Sonoma in 2005.
Our studio brings together landscape architecture, horticulture, technical expertise, and a shared curiosity about how people experience the outdoors.
After two decades in landscape architecture, horticulture, planting design, and construction, Nancy and Dave established a studio that brought their complementary expertise together. Their shared belief was simple: exceptional landscapes emerge from a close understanding of the land, thoughtful collaboration, and care that continues beyond installation.
Over the following two decades, the studio grew into a collaborative practice recognized for residential estates, wineries, resorts, and hospitality landscapes throughout Northern California. Its work has received regional and national recognition from the American Society of Landscape Architects, including honors for Sweetwater Spectrum and Progeny Winery.
Today, Cultivar carries that experience forward through an expanded partnership and a renewed identity. The name reflects both the act of cultivation and the studio’s belief that the most meaningful landscapes are shaped through attention, patience, and an enduring relationship with place.
Our people
David Roche
Founding Partner, Landscape Architect, ASLA, CLA #3355
A fourth-generation Northern Californian, Dave grew up exploring the beaches, foothills, streams, and mountains of his home state. He studied Landscape Architecture at the University of California, Davis, and in Cortona, Italy, before practicing in Boston, Oakland, Half Moon Bay, and Yountville.
Dave leads schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and project realization through construction. His work is grounded in restraint, craft, regional knowledge, and a belief that personal gardens should feel authentic to both their owners and their setting.
Nancy Roche
Founding Partner, Landscape Designer and Horticulturist
Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy with a concentration in Soil Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her lifelong relationship with plants has included nursery management, landscape construction and maintenance, horticulture, planting design, sourcing, and procurement.
Nancy leads Cultivar’s planting design and remains closely involved through installation and the landscape’s continuing development. Her work reflects an intuitive understanding of plant communities, soil, seasonality, color, texture, and how a garden grows into its fullest expression.
Salvador Dávila
Partner, Landscape Architect, CLA #5772
Salvador earned a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona and a Master of Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in Urban Design from the University of California, Berkeley.
With more than 30 years of multidisciplinary experience in Southern and Northern California, Salvador brings clarity and practical expertise to the design process. His work connects strong ideas with thoughtful project management, technical documentation, and the realities of construction.
Danielle Dávila
Partner, Landscape Architect, CLA #5773
Danielle Dávila, Partner, CLA #5773, joined the firm as a partner in 2026. Raised in Marin County and Michigan, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with high honors. Danielle has settled in Sonoma with her family, where she enjoys the strong sense of community they have found there.
Danielle brings over 20 years of experience in landscape architecture, having worked with several leading Bay Area firms and served in leadership roles including Partner and Design Director. Her well-rounded career is rooted in residential landscape architecture, with a particular passion for estate-level design strengthened by hands-on design-build experience. Her portfolio spans a broad range of public, commercial, and community-focused projects, adding depth to her design perspective and technical expertise.
Danielle is recognized for her refined design sensibility, collaborative approach, and ability to translate a client’s vision into landscapes of lasting beauty and character.
Iain Pryor
Landscape Architect, CLA #6651
A Sacramento-area native now rooted in Sonoma, Iain earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis.
His experience includes design-build practice and award-winning residential landscapes. At Cultivar, Iain contributes design, technical documentation, three-dimensional modeling, and construction observation across projects of many scales.
Sean Fitzgerald
Landscape Designer
Sean earned a Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from Cleveland State University and a Master of Landscape Architecture with distinction from The Ohio State University, including studies in Rome.
His background in theater, fashion, museums, food, wine, and culture brings a broad creative perspective to the studio. Sean contributes to design, visualization, documentation, and the development of planting approaches grounded in California’s climate and ecology.
